An Ordinance empowering the state to prohibit propagation of religionin places of worship or prayer other than the religion traditionally practiced at such place and the matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

DALLIPUR, India -- The hip young Indians working inside this country's multinational call centers have one thing in common: Almost all hail from India's upper and middle castes, elites in this highly stratified society.

Temple row: Vayalar threatens action

NEW DELHI: Moving from regret over the purification ceremony at the Krishna temple in Guruvayur after a visit by Vayalar Ravi's son and grandson, the Union minister said his family was contemplating legal action.
Ravi, minister for overseas Indian affairs, said he was "humiliated, insulted and felt sad" and alleged that the temple priests continued to discriminate on the basis of caste.

VHP activists beat up two priests

Kolhapur (Maharashtra): In a shocking attack, two priests from Ichalkaranji, in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district, were severely beaten up by Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists. The VHP activists alleged that the priests were engaged in converting Hindus to Christianity.

The priests were dragged to the local police station after they were mercilessly beaten up in full public view. Even more shockingly, the police detained the priests but took no action against the activists who beat them up. "It's highly shameful. It's as if the Bajrang Dal does just not understand the concept of law and order," said Congress leader Rajiv Shukla, reacting sharply to the incident.

Recommends CBI inquiry into Gujarat fake encounter killings

NEW DELHI: The report on the Gujarat fake encounter killings submitted by Inspector General of Police Geetha Johri speaks of "the collusion of [the] State government in the form of Shri Amit Shah, MOS for Home." It says the episode "makes a complete mockery of the rule of law and is perhaps an example of the involvement of [the] State government in a major crime." Ironically, while the Gujarat government has been resisting a CBI investigation into the murder of three innocent persons by a team of police officers and policemen belonging to the Gujarat and Rajasthan police, the Johri report firmly recommends it: "The entire enquiry should at once be entrusted to the CBI."

VHP-backed outfit attacks Christians

BHOPAL: Members of the Dharma Sena, a Vishwa Hindu Parishad-backed outfit, attacked many Christians, including girls and women, who were participating in a Palm Sunday function in Jabalpur's Cantonment area. Case filed

The police have registered a case of rioting and damage to property under Sections 147, 148, 323, 427 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code against the Dharma Sena activists.

"Ban on christian preachings at Tirumala"

Hyderabad, India - The Andhra Pradesh government Friday decided to promulgate an ordinance prohibiting propagation of other religions in certain notified places of worship belonging to any particular religion.

The move is mainly aimed at banning propagation of any religion other than Hinduism at the Lord Venkateshwara temple on Tirumala Hills near Tirupati.

Tamil Nadu to provide separate reservation for Muslims, Christians

In the midst of a raging controversy over the Supreme Court's stay on the 27 per cent reservation for OBC students in elite educational institutions, the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced an 'exclusive reservation' for Christians and Muslims in government services and educational institutions.

Intervening during a debate on the demands of grants for the minorities department, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi told the state Assembly that the government had accepted the recommendations of the state Backward Classes Commission, headed by Justice M Janardanam, retired judge of the Madras high court, in this regard.

Justice Rare for Victims of Christian Persecution in India

New Delhi, March 26 (International Christian Concern) - Victims of Christian persecution from across India shared their horrific stories and highlighted the denial of justice to them before an independent people's jury.

The depositions were part of "The Independent People's Tribunal against the Rise of Fascist Forces in India and the Attack on the Secular State," a three-day program which concluded here on March 22.

About three hundred women and men from different states of India who had confronted communal campaigns and experienced its brutality had assembled in Delhi from 20-23 March to give their testimony to an independent people's tribunal organized by a Delhi based voluntary organization, ANHAD and Human Rights Law Network. They consisted of people who have suffered mental and physical torture, driven out of their homes and have lost their dear and near ones. The testimonies rendered by them before the tribunal have clearly demonstrated that communalization is on a fast track in the country and a take over of the state by fascist forces is a distinct possibility. They shared their pain and anguish the myriad ways in which communal forces are expanding their sphere of influence, both through propaganda and coercion.
