CHENNAI: Giving a go by to political considerations
to help dalit woman occupy a reserved seat,
DMK has decided to support its arch rival AIADMK's
nominee for the Theni district panchayat president
post, party president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister
M Karunanidhi said on Saturday.
The post was reserved for dalit woman. Of the
ten members of the panchayat, six were from
the DMK, but none was a dalit woman, he said
in the party organ, Murasoli.
The election to post had been postponed due
to lack of quorum, he added.
When DPI leader Thol Thirumavalavan brought
this matter to his notice, Karunanidhi told
him that he was not bothered about the party
of the candidate, but at any cost political
considerations should not prevent a dalit woman
occupying the post.
His party was prepared to support even an AIADMK
candidate, which had two dalit women elected
to the panchayat, he said.
