Even as the Rajasthan assembly bulldozed
the Anti Conversion bill and the RSS continued
it coercive actions in Orissa, Indian President
Kalam has said he will write to the Prime
Minister Dr Manmohan Singh expressing himself
on recent events (affecting religious minorities).
During his recent visit to Bangalore, President
Kalam gave an audience to Transparency International
(Karn) leader B G Koshy, a human rights activist.
On the developments in Rajasthan, the Indian
President said he was already aware of the
Christian concerns regarding the Freedom of
Religion Bill. He said he had already spoken
to Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh about
it and would convey our reservations once
again - in a letter to the government of Dr
Singh.
Briefed about the plight of Emmanuel Mission
leaders Archbishop MA Thomas and his son Sam
Thomas who is now in judicial custody, the
President said the government of the state
of Rajasthan though the Prime Minister's Office
- the official channel -- had sent a voluminous
report about Thomas. Mr. Koshy informed the
President that the Stat government as guilty
of violation of rules and human rights and
its report was naturally suspect and a pack
of lies.
Mr. Koshy also briefed the President about
the actions of the government of Gujarat ejecting
Catholic nuns from a leprosarium they had
been running for sixty years. The President
said he would ask for an investigation.
